RMAPI stakeholders and community members came together on June 14 to discuss priorities for our work and ways to best spread upward mobility to everyone in our community.

The summit gave us the chance for listening, learning and dialogue regarding upward mobility, with presentations from local experts and a keynote address from Rochester Mayor Malik Evans.
The Bundle Matters
How do we know if we’re moving in the right direction?
Experts from the Urban Institute led participants in a discussion on case studies to see what is working in other communities. We discussed how to promote upward mobility by focusing on Economic Success, Power & Autonomy and Dignity & Belonging.
The Will to Act
RMAPI stakeholder collaborated to build around RMAPI’s Unity Agenda and determine how we will Act, Align and Assess the work in our community.

What are you willing to do to shift the narrative in our community from “reducing poverty” to “boosting upward mobility”?
Here is what participants said:
- “I am willing to be a part of any activities associated with moving the needle…community forums, surveys, etc.”
- “I’ve already started using that language and will encourage others to do so as well. It’s much more inspiring!”
- “Me as a parent advocate I would love to see more community members throwing events in their community for their community being heard for their community”
- “Spend less time around the table and more time doing the work.”
